Scroby Sands Works Update
The fire in the nacelle of a turbine in the Scroby Sands Offshore Wind Farm array in August 2023, resulted in the total operational loss of that turbine, although the main structure of the nacelle remains.

Due to the complex and amphibious nature of the specific location, we have spent some time reviewing all potential solutions relating to the removal, decommissioning or replanting of the affected turbine.
A decision was taken to remove the nacelle, blades and the upper section of the turbine tower, and, we now have the necessary licencing agreements from the Marine Management Organisation and The Crown Estate that allows the removal operations to be carried out as part of the summer maintenance campaign on the site. No works will be undertaken on the foundation at this point in time.
Vessels undertaking the work on behalf of RWE/Scroby Sands will be operating out of the Port of Great Yarmouth. When the components are removed from the turbine, they will be brought to port for recycling around mid-September, subject to operational/weather delays.
A Notice to Mariners has already been issued for the works. Any further information needed will be relayed by updates to this existing Notice to Mariners.
